I’m Roxanne Coffelt, proud owner of Roxanne Coffelt CPA LLC.
I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.
After working in public accounting for most of my career, I decided I wanted to go in a different direction from a traditional CPA firm. Most of them offered bookkeeping, payroll and tax services along with some consulting. Although I have a strong tax background, I also have a background in business valuation. Training and experience go hand in hand with helping business owners grow the value of their business. Baby boomers are entering retirement now, and many of them haven’t given enough thought to an exit strategy for their business. There was a real need there that I felt I could help with.
I have to admit though, I was a little reluctant about starting a business. Though I had done it once before, times have changed. I was particularly concerned about cyber-security issues and needed to convince myself that one person could handle it. However, since making the decision, I have never looked back.
Roxanne Coffelt CPA LLC has been around for just over a year now. Before this, I did have a traditional CPA practice in Des Moines for about eight years, before I sold it and moved to China for two years! That was before the cloud. Now I can pretty much work from anywhere.
Coming back to business, Roxanne Coffelt CPA LLC started out with just a concept. I wasn’t sure exactly how I was going to package it. However, in just over a year, I have gone from concept to having actual functioning systems in place to handle the current and future needs of both my practice and my clients.
I always said to myself, if I ever had my own practice again, I would make sure that my clients get value out of their financial statements and benefits that were waiting to be unlocked. I think a lot of business owners don’t get this from their current accountants, and I want to offer this service, even though someone else may be doing their books.
I currently don’t offer bookkeeping or payroll services, but I can help a client find one.
My job is to give the business owner the information, and maybe some ideas, so they can make informed decisions about their business. I love puzzles, therefore I love to solve problems. So the most rewarding part of my business is when I can come up with a solution for a client’s problem.
As an individual, I believe what sets me apart from the others is my honesty, integrity, and quality of service. A client once said to me that the purpose of a business is to make money. I think the purpose of my business is to serve my clients, and as a result of that service, my business will make money. The success of my business will be determined by how well I serve the needs of my clients.
When I am not at work, I like to travel, and I enjoy photography. As I have many photographs, I also like to scrapbook. I do have another business as well, making and selling fused glass and metal clay jewelry. I sell on Etsy and at art shows. I have been doing this for about twelve years, but I currently don’t have too much time for any of these things. Start-ups are very time-consuming! I do however have a little granddaughter whom I like to see often, with another one on the way soon.
I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
